Proton internal pressure in pp and p̄p elastic scattering

Abstract: In this work, one proposes the use of a damped confinement potential to mimic the proton internal energy. The internal pressure is calculated taking into account the occurrence of a phase transition in the pp andpp total cross section. The model predicts the inversion of the positive and negative pressure regions depending on the squared energy s0, where the total cross section achieves its minimum value. Considering energies below the phase transition the expected results are in accordance with the recent pro… Show more

“…The first extraction of the pressure distribution inside the proton has already generated over 70 citations, and inspired many theoretical papers that, among others, relate the pressure distribution to limits on deviations from general relativity at short distance [295], applications to computing the equation of state in neutron stars [296], Lattice calculations of gluon contributions to the pressure distribution [297], studies of a two-scale structure of the proton related to LHC results [298][299][300][301], computations of the proton mechanical radius [302,303], a detailed review paper [304], extensions of the concept of mechanical properties [305] and others.…”

“…The definition of the energy scale µ depends on the system properties. For example, it is possible to identify µ 2 = Q 2 , where Q 2 the transferred momentum in the gluon frame [2]. The non-relativistic regime demands large Q 2 (small distances).…”
