In this research, we proposed a protocol for information transmission in a communication system. The protocol consists of three parts: Publisher, Broker, and Subscriber. The main problem in the transmission is the reliability of the broker. It is very difficult to get the status of the broker whether it is active or not. Secondly, we also worked on the part of security.Here by employing a Watchdog timer to determine whether the broker is active or not. To make the system more secure AES algorithm is incorporated into it. To validate the suggested protocol hardware setup is built and performance is tested in various conditions. Performance tests show that our proposed system outperforms the current system when compared to the existing system. The suggested system architecture's temporal and spatial complexity are also presented in this research.

Privacy Preserved Video Summarization of Road Traffic Events for IoT Smart Cities

The purpose of smart surveillance systems for automatic detection of road traffic accidents is to quickly respond to minimize human and financial losses in smart cities. However, along with the self-evident benefits of surveillance applications, privacy protection remains crucial under any circumstances. Hence, to ensure the privacy of sensitive data, European General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR) has come into force. EU-GDPR suggests data minimisation and data protection by design for data collection and storage. Therefore, for a privacy-aware surveillance system, this paper targets the identification of two areas of concern: (1) detection of road traffic events (accidents), and (2) privacy preserved video summarization for the detected events in the surveillance videos. The focus of this research is to categorise the traffic events for summarization of the video content, therefore, a state-of-the-art object detection algorithm, i.e., You Only Look Once (YOLOv5), has been employed. YOLOv5 is trained using a customised synthetic dataset of 600 annotated accident and non-accident video frames. Privacy preservation is achieved in two steps, firstly, a synthetic dataset is used for training and validation purposes, while, testing is performed on real-time data with an accuracy from 55% to 85%. Secondly, the real-time summarized videos (reduced video duration to 42.97% on average) are extracted and stored in an encrypted format to avoid un-trusted access to sensitive event-based data. Fernet, a symmetric encryption algorithm is applied to the summarized videos along with Diffie–Hellman (DH) key exchange algorithm and SHA256 hash algorithm. The encryption key is deleted immediately after the encryption process, and the decryption key is generated at the system of authorised stakeholders, which prevents the key from a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack.

Microclimate monitoring in agroforestry is very important to understand the complex interactions between vegetation, soil, and the environment. Microclimate parameters include air and soil temperature, air humidity, soil moisture, and light intensity. This research aims to develop a new microclimate data recording system for coffee-pine agroforestry, utilizing LoRaWAN and IoT technology to capture real-time microclimate parameters. Unlike traditional data loggers that require manual download on-site, this innovative system enables instant data download from IoT servers, thereby increasing data efficiency and accessibility. The system proved effective, significantly improving the precision of air temperature and humidity, as well as soil temperature measurements, with an average accuracy of 100%. However, soil moisture and light intensity recorded lower accuracies of 81.23% and 82.56%, respectively, indicating potential areas for future research and system refinement. The system maintains a 15-minute sampling period, aligning with conventional datalogger intervals. This represents an advancement in precision agriculture for microclimate monitoring, enabling the data to be utilized in decision-making for agroforestry management, which involves complex interactions between the local microclimate and the broader ecological system. It underscores the significance of sustainable land use as a response to global climate change.
