“…A NewWave Research UP213 LA system (Kennelec Scientific, Mitcham, VIC, Australia) coupled to an Agilent Technologies 7500s Series ICP-MS (Agilent Technologies) was used for all experiments. Quantitative data were obtained by representative ablation of prepared matrix-matched tissue standards (Hare et al 2013c), and hydrogen was used as a reaction gas to remove 40 Ar 16 O + interference on 56 Fe + (Lear et al 2012b). Laser parameters were selected to obtain final images with a spatial resolution of 30 9 30 lm (total pixel area = 900 lm 2 ) by rastering a 213 nm 20 Hz laser pulse with a diameter of 30 lm across the sample at 120 lm/s (Lear et al 2012a).…”

“…In addition, quantitative images can be obtained when using the appropriate standardization approaches. 24,25,26 To date, several reports have described the imaging of nanomaterials in cells, 27,28,29 tissues 30,31,32 and plants. 33 A few of these studies have involved AuNPs, yet all but one 33 have measured AuNPs with core sizes between 13 and 50 nm.…”

“…Finally, the in-tissue strategy, referred as "matrix-matched standard" and based on dosed surrogate tissue, has been widely described for the quantification of trace metals in tissue sections by LA-ICP-MS [16]. Recently, Groseclose et al developed a surrogate tissue model for drug quantification by MALDI-MSI [17].…”
