Protocol for magnetic resonance imaging acquisition, quality assurance, and quality check for the Accelerator program for Discovery in Brain disorders using Stem cells

Abstract: Objective: The Accelerator program for Discovery in Brain disorders using Stem cells (ADBS) is a longitudinal study on five cohorts of patients with major psychiatric disorders from genetically high-risk families, their unaffected first-degree relatives, and healthy subjects. We describe the ADBS protocols for acquisition, quality assurance (QA), and quality check (QC) for multimodal magnetic resonance brain imaging studies. Methods:We describe the acquisition and QC protocols for structural, functional, and d… Show more

“…For the first scanner used at NIMHANS -a Philips 3T Ingenia scanner-dMRI was acquired using a single-shot, diffusionweighted echo-planar imaging sequence (TR=7441 ms, TE=85 ms, TA (total acquisition time) =630 s, voxel size: 2×2×2mm 3 , 64 slices, flip angle=90 • , FOV 224mm). Detailed descriptions of the acquisitions and quality assurance can be found in Parekh et al 18 . For the Siemens 3T Skyra scanner, dMRI data was also collected using a singleshot, diffusion-weighted echoplanar imaging sequence (TR=8400 ms, TE=91 ms, TA (total acquisition time) = 546 s, FOV 240mm) 19,20 .…”

“…The dataset consists of neuroimaging data from 123 cognitively normal participants (CN), 89 diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and 90 with AD. Diffusion-weighted image (DWI) acquisition for the Philips 3T Ingenia scanner was performed using a single-shot, DWI echo-planar imaging sequence (TR=7441 ms, TE=85 ms, TA=630 s, voxel size: 2 × 2 × 2mm 3 , 64 slices, flip angle= 90 • , FOV 224mm) [20]. DWI acquisition for the Siemens 3T Skyra was performed using a single-shot, DWI echo-planar imaging sequence (TR=8400 ms, TE=91 ms, TA=546 s, FOV 240mm) [21], [22].…”

“…The MR images were acquired on a 3 Tesla Philips Ingenia CX scanner using a 32-channel head coil (TR 6.5 ms, TE 2.9 ms, flip angle 9°, 192 slices in sagittal orientation, voxel size 1mm isotropic). The T1-weighted images were checked for MR artefacts, motion, and structural abnormalities using a systematic quality check (QC) pipeline (Parekh et al, 2021). The scans were also reviewed independently by a neuroradiologist to rule out any gross morphological abnormality.…”
