Proteomic Characterization of a New asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane for Hemodialysis

Abstract: By highlighting the differences between the two haemodialysis filters in terms of adsorbed proteins and flow through, it is demonstrated the higher biocompatibility of the novel ATA membrane, that fulfils the indications for the development of more performant membranes and may represent a step forward for the treatment of patients on chronic haemodialysis.

“…The mass spectrometry analysis carried out on the pOMV and bOMV lysates showed that the hydratase activity was due to the periplasmic bacterial α-CA, indicated with the acronym hpαCA. Further studies will be necessary to elucidate the role or the fate of α-CA delivered by OMVs in planktonic and biofilm phenotypes as well as a possible involvement of α-CA in eDNA release as previously demonstrated for nontuberculous mycobacteria 44 . However, these results shed new light in the field of the strategies used to combat the microbial infections.…”

“…In-source reference lock mass (1221.9906 m/z ) was acquired online throughout the runs. The raw data were processed using PEAKS Studio v7.5 software (Bioinformatic Solutions Inc, Waterloo, Canada) using the function “correct precursor only” as already reported 44 . Briefly, the mass lists were searched against a custom database containing H. pylori NCTC11637 proteins and a list of common contaminants (June 2017; 1880 entries) using 10 ppm and 0.05 Da as the highest error tolerances for parent and fragment ions, respectively.…”

“…In comparison with a conventional symmetric membrane, the modified cellulose triacetate (CTA) for the biocompatible AM was achieved by the basic mechanism of blood interaction on a smooth surface. The novel CTA, strengthened by the physio-chemical characteristics of the blood-exposed membrane surface, together with important properties of the CAM, could further lead to progressive remedies of hemodialysis [54].…”

“…Another important property of CTA is its low thrombogenetic potential. 14 The asymmetric triacetate membrane (ATA), which was created by modifying CTA, is a new compound developed by the Nipro Corporation (Osaka, Japan). Its main properties are its asymmetrical structure and smooth surface, resulting in high permeability during massive filtration, less variation in permeation time, better biocompatibility, and lower protein adsorption.…”
