Proteomic Analysis of the Endosperm Ontogeny of Jatropha curcas L. Seeds

Abstract: Seeds of Jatropha curcas L. represent a potential source of raw material for the production of biodiesel. However, this use is hampered by the lack of basic information on the biosynthetic pathways associated with synthesis of toxic diterpenes, fatty acids, and triacylglycerols, as well as the pattern of deposition of storage proteins during seed development. In this study, we performed an in-depth proteome analysis of the endosperm isolated from five developmental stages which resulted in the identification o… Show more

“…In the plant, pathways contributing to lipid biosynthesis can be divided into three steps and cell compartments; a) fatty acid biosynthesis in the plastids, b) triacylglycerol (TAG) biosynthesis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and c) oil body formation in the cytoplasm [37]. Altogether, 97 contigs and 55 enzymes distributed among 13 pathways were enriched as being involved in these steps ( Figure S7).…”

“…used PatternLab’s Isobaric Analyzer module to analyze TMT data from aging soleus and extensor digitorum longus rat muscles, disclosing quantitative data for more than 4000 proteins 67 . Finally, Shah et al used PatternLab’s TrendQuest module to group protein expression profiles of J. curcas seeds during five developmental stages 68 .…”

“…The high concentration of proteins in J. curcas compared to J. macrocarpa observed in this work is directly related to the reserve of sugars since there is greater availability of hydrolytic that promote the mobilization and degradation of reserve substances. Proteome analysis of the developing endosperm of J. curcas allowed to identify different proteins; providing an important glimpse into the enzymatic machinery devoted to the production of C and N sources to sustain embryo development [29].…”
