Proteomic analysis of differential protein expression in neuropathic pain and electroacupuncture treatment models

Abstract: Acupuncture has long been used for pain relief. Although recent studies have shown that acupuncture can reduce neuropathic pain, the mechanism of this effect is not clear and little information is available regarding proteins that are involved in the development of neuropathic pain and the effects of acupuncture. We have developed an animal model for neuropathic pain using young adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. The model was confirmed by behavioral tests. Electroacupuncture (EA) treatment was applied to Zusanli… Show more

“…In a rat model of neuropathic pain, the Ca-binding proteins calmodulin and calretinin as well as protein-tyrosin phosphatase A, Ras-related protein RAB-15, and stress-activated protein kinase JNK3 showed lower levels. Higher levels were found for DRP2, interleukin-1, Rab-3A and 1B, somatropin, myosin regulatory light chain, and neuronalkinesin heavy chain [69,70]. In an ischemia model, increased expression for the signaling molecules platelet activation factor receptor and retinal guanyl cyclase 2 were observed [68].…”

“…In contrast to DS, down-regulation for ubiquitin carboxylterminal esterase L-1 was found in the brain of patients with schizophrenia [66]. In a rat model for neuropathic pain, reduced levels for proteasome component C8 were observed [69].…”
