Protein synthesis and degradation gene SNPs related to feed intake, feed efficiency, growth, and ultrasound carcass traits in Nellore cattle

Abstract: ABSTRACT.We looked for possible associations of SNPs in genes related to protein turnover, with growth, feed efficiency and carcass traits in feedlot Nellore cattle. Purebred Nellore bulls and steers (N = 290; 378 ± 42 kg body weight, 23 months ± 42 days old) were evaluated for daily feed intake, body weight gain (BWG), gross feed efficiency, feed conversion ratio, partial efficiency of growth, residual feed intake (RFI), ultrasound backfat, rump fat, and ribeye area. Genotypes were obtained for SNPs in the gr… Show more

“…In all the experiments, animals were handled in accordance with the guidelines of the Brazilian College of Animal Experimentation (COBEA). Phenotypic data and DNA samples were taken from each of the experiments, which had been approved by the respective Ethics Committees for each study (Santana et al, 2012;Gomes et al, 2013;Alexandre et al, 2015).…”

“…The data used in this study are a compilation of 11 different experiments, which were approved by their respective ethic committees (Gomes et al, 2013;Santana et al, 2013). Phenotypic and genotypic information from 720 steers and young Nellore bulls were used in this study.…”

“…The study described herein used a dataset obtained from experiments published elsewhere Gomes et al, 2013;Santana et al, 2012), whose authors report phenotype records and DNA samples from tests approved by their respective institutional animal ethics committee and by the cattle owners. All animals' procedures were undertaken within common management practices in beef cattle feedlot operations and in accordance with standard veterinary protocols.…”
