Protein Functionalized Nanodiamond Arrays

Abstract: Various nanoscale elements are currently being explored for bio-applications, such as in bio-images, bio-detection, and bio-sensors. Among them, nanodiamonds possess remarkable features such as low bio-cytotoxicity, good optical property in fluorescent and Raman spectra, and good photostability for bio-applications. In this work, we devise techniques to position functionalized nanodiamonds on self-assembled monolayer (SAMs) arrays adsorbed on silicon and ITO substrates surface using electron beam lithography t… Show more

“…After reviewing publications on biological properties of DND, we conclude that DND actively interacts with nano-sized drugs and substances of protein nature such as enzymes and bacteria [2,9]. We have shown that DND, soot and their complexes with PANI are also able to interact with influenza viruses and the interaction doesn't vary for different antigenic structure of the surface proteins-hemagglutinins of influenza B or influenza A (H1,H3,H5) viruses.…”

“…In many of those applications, functional biological molecules need to be tailored to the ND surfaces. Even though many approaches to attach biological molecules to ND surfaces have been investigated [5,8,12,[14][15][16], it remains challenging to monitor behaviors of the grafted molecules because the presence of ND hampers the employment of standard techniques (e.g., chromatography and optical spectroscopy).…”
