Protective role of Royal Jelly (honeybee) on genotoxicity and lipid peroxidation, induced by petroleum wastewater, inAllium cepaL. root tips

Abstract: In the present study, the protective effect of Royal Jelly (RJ) on genotoxicity and lipid peroxidation, induced by petroleum wastewater, in Allium cepa L. root-tip cells was investigated. For this purpose, we used the malondialdehyde (MDA) level, mitotic index (MI), frequency of micronucleus (MN) and chromosomal aberrations (CAs) as indicators of genotoxicity and lipid peroxidation, and correlated these data with statistical parameters. In additional to the genotoxic analysis, we examined changes in the root a… Show more

“…In contrast to our results, previous reports found that in cultured skin substitutes grown in vitro the levels of cholesterol and free fatty acids were increased during the healing process with grafting [10,26]. An increase in the levels of lipids in HDFn, in particular sphingolipids such as ceramides and glucosylceramides, has been noted to occur in the wound healing process [27,28]. Also, increases in the levels of glucosylceramides and ceramides were highly distinct [26,29].…”

“…as reported by many researchers. MN formation results from different types of chromosomal aberrations such as their inhibition or delay in the formation of the chromosome-spindle complex (İnceer et al 2003, Türkmen et al 2009, Arya and Mukherjee 2014.…”

“…Healthy and approximately equal-sized A. cepa seeds were selected. The seeds were sterilized with 2.5% sodium hypochloride solution for 10 min and washed for 24 h in ultra-distilled water (Türkmen et al 2009). Twenty seeds from each treatment group were placed into plastic containers.…”

“…Honey sugar displayed complex behavior toward the enhanced or inhibited mutagenic activity in a model by cooked food systems (Skog, 1993). Royal jelly (RJ) had shown highly efficient antioxidant where it scavenges the produced free radicals (Cemek et al, 2010;ElNekeety et al, 2007;Türkmen, 2009). El-Monem (2011) also revealed that RJ caused a significant recovery in antioxidant status.…”
