Protective role of Cadherin 13 in interneuron development

Abstract: Cortical interneurons are generated in the ganglionic eminences and migrate through the ventral and dorsal telencephalon before finding their final positions within the cortical plate. During early stages of migration, these cells are present in two well-defined streams within the developing cortex. In an attempt to identify candidate genes which may play a role in interneuron stream specification, we previously carried out a microarray analysis which identified a number of cadherin receptors that were differe… Show more

“…Chemotaxis assays were performed using a 48-well Boyden’s chamber (NeuroProbe) as described previously (Killen et al 2017 ). Briefly, 27 µl of DM containing 10% FBS were placed into the lower compartment of the chamber.…”

“…This increase in inhibitory synaptic contacts could underlie the increase in gamma oscillations observed in ADHD patients discussed before 59 62 . Cdh13 KO mice show a reduced number of interneurons at embryonic day 18.5 233 but not at P21 133 . Experiments are needed to test whether the changes in interneuron number have a role in the aetiology of ADHD.…”

“…The cadherin molecules with special regional expression at E14 and E18 indicate that they may play roles in avian hippocampal development, and the layer specificity of these molecules suggests they may be integral to neurogenesis specifically [11,[55][56][57]. The layer specificity of cadherin expression was also be observed in the lateral entorhinal cortex of the mouse [44,45,58,59]. In wild-type adult mice and the corresponding E18 chicken embryo APH subregions (dentate gyrus in mouse and V-shaped region in chicken), many cadherin molecules, such as Cdh2, Cdh4, Cdh6, Cdh7, Cdh11, Pchd1, Pcdh7, Pcdh9 and Pcdh10, showed similar regional expression.…”

“…The expression of cadherins in chicken embryos has been mapped and reported by different groups [30,39,[41][42][43]. In the chicken embryonic brain, the expression and regulation of cadherins was studied during development [44][45][46]. However, except for a few molecules, the profile of cadherins in APH has not been systemically described.…”
