Abstract: When starting cross-compound units excitation may be transferred to the directconnected exciters either before or after synchronizing with the system, as preferred by the operating company. There are advantages to each. Our company does not necessarily recommend one method over the other. Mr. Webb mentioned an advantage to transferring after synchronizing.
