Protective effects of Syzygium aromaticum oil (Clove) against acrylamide induced hepatic, renal, and testicular toxicity in rats

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the possible protective role of clove oil against acrylamide induced oxidative damage and impairment of liver, kidney, and testicular functions in albino rats. The apparent oxidative damage was associated with evident hepatic, renal, and testicular dysfunction, which was confirmed in histopathological lesions, and increased serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities. Acrylamide decreased serum total protein and albumin contents; increased ur… Show more

“…When evaluating ALT, AST and Albumin (Figure 2C) we obtain a result similar to that obtained by (Elkomy et al, 2018) in which rats treated with 200mg/kg of body weight with clove essential oil, also showed no significant difference (p <0.05), in these biochemical parameters. In the context of toxicity, ALT and AST are released and increase in plasma three times more than the baseline level (Xu et al, 2015) The biochemical analysis of triglycerides, total cholesterol and HDL, in the group FDB+CEO did not differ significantly (p <0.05), in the Ctrl and FDB groups (Fig.…”

“…Moreover, ACR and its metabolite, glycidaimde, are considered carcinogenic agents that affect different organs in the body as, the liver, kidney, brain, lungs, and intestine (Capuano and Fogliano, 2011;Bin-Jumah et al, 2021). Hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and neurotoxicity induced by ACR were described in several reports (Yousef and El-Demerdash, 2006;Zhu et al, 2008;Aboubakr et al, 2018;Elkomy et al, 2018). The main mechanism of action is the induced ACR oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation as reported by several studies (Abdel-Daim et al, 2020; Elhelaly et al, 2019).…”
