Protective Effect of Salix Tetrasperma Roxburgh Leaf Extracts Against Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Liver Injury in Rats

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to investigate the protective effect of ethanolic and aqueous leaf extracts of Salix tetrasperma Roxburgh against carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in rats. The test extracts administration resulted in significant elevation of biochemical parameters like viz. serum SGOT, SGPT, ALP, direct bilirubin and total bilirubin levels, while albumin is found to be decreased compared to normal group. Pretreatment with silymarin, ethanolic and aqueous extract of Salix tetrasperma… Show more

“…Under some circumstances, several chemicals in plant extracts may impact the decreased uptake of nutrients ( Gemede and Ratta, 2014 ). Salix tetrasperma leaf extracts have a high number of bioactive substances, including tannins, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenes, phenolic substances, and sterols ( El-Wakil et al, 2015 ; Virupaksha et al, 2016 ). It has long been known that the tannin and saponin molecules are antinutrients ( Tadele, 2015 ).…”
