Protective Effect of Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim. Extract against Ethanol-Induced Gastritis in Rats

Abstract: Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim (Korean pear) has been used for hundreds of years as a traditional herbal medicine for asthma, cough, and atopic dermatitis in Korea and China. Although it was originally shown to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiatopic properties, its gastroprotective effects have not been investigated. In the present study, we evaluated the protective effects of Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim extract (PUE) against ethanol-induced gastritis in rats. The bioactive compound profile of PUE was det… Show more

“…In addition, in order to demonstrate the anti-inflammatory effects of Loratadine in vivo, we investigated a hydrochloride (HCl)-induced acute gastritis mouse model. Ethanol-induced gastritis leads to increased gastric acid secretion, which results in sequential activation of c-AMP, H2R, and H+/K+ ATPase, eventually causing gastric mucosal damage [ 47 , 48 , 49 ]. On the other hand, Ranitidine is known to be a potential H2R antagonist, inhibiting H2R-mediated gastric damage [ 50 , 51 ].…”

“…Polyphenols are natural active ingredients in plants and have potential antioxidant properties [ 27 ]. In this study, the purification method of polyphenols from MO was investigated to determine the influencing factors, such as resin type, crude extract concentration and flow rate, as well as eluent concentration and flow rate during the purification process.…”
