“…Motivations for and prevalence of extramarital mating, quality and quantity of sexual fantasies, quality and quantity of pornography consumption, motivation for and use of prostitution, willingness to have sex without commitment, and willingness to have sex with strangers all suggest that men are more inclined toward casual impersonal sex than women (Burley and Symanski, 1981; Clark and Hatfield, 1989; Ellis and Symons, 1990; Malamuth, 1996; McGuire and Gruter, 2003; Seal, Agostinelli and Hannet, 1994; Townsend, 1995; Wiederman, 1997). Research has found that women show a sexual preference for more symmetrical/masculine men while ovulating (Gangestad and Thornhill, 1998; Thornhill and Gangestad, 1999), supporting a ‘good genes’ theory of women’s short‐term mating strategies in which women try to have the “best of both worlds” by being impregnated by a genetically desirable “cad” while raising the baby with a cuckolded “dad” (Wright, 1994, p. 69).…”
