“…8 It is recognised, however, that other groups have used synthetic graft material with excellent outcome in similar indications. 6,7,21 In summary, carotid artery reconstruction using autologous bifurcated carotid interposition grafts with additional reconstruction of the ECA provides comparable mid-term results. This technique does not add significant morbidity, as brain perfusion is restored as fast as in other bypass procedures.…”

“…In the current series, the incidence of cranial nerve injuries was substantially higher than in other published series on recurrent carotid artery interventions. 6,18,20 Only Dorafshar et al published similarly high incidence rates of cranial nerve injuries in their series of 39 patients undergoing interposition grafts for various indications. 19 In the present series, all cranial nerve lesions observed in patients operated on for recurrent carotid artery stenosis (n ¼ 9 [31%]) were transient and resolved within weeks of the procedure.…”

“…According to the current view, the main reasons underlying VG stenosing are the misfit of the VG and blood vessel mechanical properties and insufficient endothelialization of the VG inner surface [71,72].…”

“…Restenosis rates differ according to surgical sites and interventions, and despite the use of drug-eluting balloons or stents, restenosis remains a serious clinical problem. [1][2][3] In addition to technical reasons or an acute thrombotic event, revascularization procedures fail because of the recurrence of atherosclerotic lesions or excessive intimal hyperplasia, which is characterized by an activation of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) that proliferate, migrate, and produce matrix. Since the development of small animal models for arterial injury decades ago, many factors that regulate SMC migration and proliferation have been described, with platelet-derived growth factor playing an important role.…”
