Synthons for New Halochlorvulones II from 6,7-Dichloro-1,4-dioxospiro[4.4]non-6-en-8-one. -The preparation of 3-iodo-and 3-bromo derivatives of cyclopentenone (II) by reaction of the title dioxospirononene (I) with appropriate alkali halogenides in methyl butyl ketone is achieved. Attempts to prepare the corresponding 3-fluoro derivative fail. For example, reaction of (I) with KF in ethylene glycol or DMF results in conjugate 1,4-addition of the nucleophilic solvent furnishing compounds (IV) and (VI), respectively. -(IVANOVA, N.
