“…The same concentrations of E 2 and P 4 were maintained throughout all experiments. The concentration of these steroid hormones was chosen from the levels in the bovine uterus during the pre‐ovulatory period in situ (Cerbito et al, , Ulbrich et al, ). The purity of the epithelial cells was evaluated by immunofluorescence staining using a monoclonal antibody against cytokeratin (anti‐Cytokeratin 8 + 18; ab53280, Abcam, Tokyo, Japan) and by their characteristic epithelial morphology.…”

“…The endometrium of the uterine horn that is located on the same side of the ovary as CL has a higher progesterone (P4) concentration compared with the endometrium in the opposite uterine horn (Cerbito et al, 1994). In addition, the concentration of E2 in the oviduct ipsilateral to the preovulatory follicle is higher than that contralateral to the preovulatory follicle in bovine (Wijayagunawardane et al, 1998).…”

“…In addition, the study of Payne and Lamming (1994) revealed that infusion of OT to the nonpregnant uterine horn stimulated PGE2 and PGF2, synthesis. Based on the authors' previous observation of high PGE2 in early pregnancy (Cerbito et al 1994) and in this study, the low but considerable levels of PGF2, observed at early pregnancy than at luteal phase, it is speculative to say that OT may be dircctly or indirectly involved in the stimulation of certain enzymes responsible for both PGF2, synthesis andlor basal production but not release of PGF2, during the luteal phase. Uterine levels of OT, OT-R and PGF2, in the ipsilateral horn showed significantly higher levels than the contralatcral horn at follicular stage but these differences in the concentrations of OT-R and PGFZZ diminished after ovulation.…”

“…Previous reports showed significantly higher levels of P4 (Pope et al 1982;Weems el al. 1989) and PGEz (Cerbito et al 1994) in uterine tissues ipsilateral to thcCL. During luteolysis, it has been postulated that the signal emerges from the horn ipsilateral to the CL.…”
