“…In the present study, among identified proteins were also prostaglandin reductase, which is crucial for the reverse shift between prostaglandins of series E and F and can be involved in the process of physiological and altered separation of placenta as it was described in cows (Kankofer, Wierciński, & Zerbe, ). Dehydrogenase/reductase SDR family member 4 known as NADPH‐dependent retinol dehydrogenase/reductase (1.1.1.184) reduces all‐trans‐retinal and 9‐cis retinal.…”

Its abundance was higher in FMR mares.…”

“…Furthermore, 9K‐PGR's potential has been observed in the ovine endometrium and CL tissue (Beaver & Murdoch, ). In addition, the activity of 9K‐PTGR was also confirmed in the bovine placenta (Kankofer & Wierciński, ) and endometrium (Asselin & Fortier, ). The high level of PTGF during the late‐luteal phase and especially during luteolysis in our study could also be influenced by the 9K‐PTGR activity.…”

“…PGE 2 9‐keto‐reductase is the enzyme involved in the reversible metabolism of PGF 2α into PGE 2 and it regulates the ratio of these two hormones. Its activity is significantly higher in both the fetal and maternal compartments of placentomes obtained from cows that have retained fetal membranes than in normal healthy cows (Kankofer and others 2002). This finding is consistent with a proposal made almost 20 years earlier by Gross and others (1987) that after pharmacological induction of parturition, retained fetal membranes might be prevented by administering PGF 2α to the cows immediately after parturition; this procedure reduced the incidence of retained fetal membranes from 91 per cent to 9 per cent.…”
