Prospective study of the factors associated with poor tolerance to ambulatory colonoscopy under conscious sedation

Abstract: tolerance of patients undergoing ambulatory colonoscopy under conscious sedation is good in most cases and complications are infrequent and minor. A worse tolerance to the test is associated with women patients, individuals with anxiety prior to colonoscopy, indication, difficult and longer exploration and lower doses of sedatives.

“…[ 10 ] The impact of analgesia-based sedation on the tolerance of patients undergoing colonoscopy has been assessed in several studies. [ 11 12 ] However, no randomized controlled study has yet, to our knowledge, been performed to assess the effect of the currently most often used analgesic agent on patient tolerance and pain and on cardiorespiratory parameters. This study evaluated the comparative efficacy and safety of ketamine over fentanyl in combination with propofol for the colonoscopy procedure.…”
