Prospective Comparison of Dual Wavelength Long-Pulsed 755-nm Alexandrite/1,064-nm Neodymium:Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet Laser versus 585-nm Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment for Rosacea

Abstract: BackgroundRosacea treatments including oral/topical medications and laser therapy are numerous but unsatisfactory.ObjectiveTo compare the effectiveness of the dual wavelength long-pulsed 755-nm alexandrite/1,064-nm neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser (LPAN) with that of 585-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) for rosacea.MethodsThis was a randomized, single-blinded, comparative study. Full face received four consecutive monthly treatments with LPAN or PDL, followed-up for 6 months after the last treatment. Erythema… Show more

“…Additionally, biophysical tools are probe‐related; they only cover a small facial area, questioning representativeness of the entire face. Placing the device on the same area of interest in follow‐up visits is therefore challenging . Computer‐aided image analysis does not impose these problems as whole face erythema is mapped.…”

“…6 The PDL may cause marked vessel disruption and purpura which persists for 10-14 days. 14,15 We report a lower number of adverse events following treatment with the fractional 532-nm KTP laser than with the 595-nm PDL. The fractional 532-nm KTP laser was less painful according to subjective selfassessment, and 12 of 19 participants (63%) preferred the fractional 532-nm KTP diode laser to the 595-nm PDL for this reason.…”

“…However, when treating more superficial lesions, there was no difference between use of a 532‐nm KTP and a 595‐nm PDL .
