Proposal of a new configuration for magnetically suspended gyro

Abstract: This paper proposes a new configuration for rotating gyros using magnetic suspension. A rotating gyro based on an active magnetic bearing (AMB-based gyro) has been proposed. However, the miniaturization of the AMB-based gyro is technically difficult because of the limitations on its design and structures. In contrast, the new configuration suits miniaturization because of the simplicity of rotor design. Based on the new concept, a prototype of a new rotating gyro was fabricated. The structure and the principle … Show more

“…Their research proves the technical feasibility and shows the potential of high-precesion and high-bandwidth of MSSGs. However, due to lack of effective error compensation, the amplitude error is as high as 10% in the angular velocity measurement [6][7][8]. Fang J. et al proposed a magnetically suspended control moment gyroscope, which can work in two modes of actuator and attitude sensor [9].…”

“…Researchers have worked extensively on modeling and compensation of gyroscope output [9][10][11][12], improving the performance of MSSGs to a certain degree. Being a newly developed gyroscope, the affect of the dynamic imbalance to measurement accuracy have not been studied thoroughly.…”
