Property identification of viscoelastic solid materials in nomograms using optimization techniques

Abstract: Viscoelastic materials have been widely used as devices for vibration control in general. Frequently, dynamic properties of those materials are provided by manufacturers only in a graph form in the frequency domain. This is a recurring problem in industry and academia. Thereby, the goal of this work is to contribute to this important issue which is to obtain the properties of viscoelastic materials from nomograms supplied by the manufacturer. The methodology is based on the digitalization of the nomogram of th… Show more

“…For the imported materials, the nomograms are provided by the manufacturer. Through the nomograms of the materials, their properties were identified through a numerical methodology based on the fractional Zener model (see Sousa et al., 2017). The identified parameters are shown in Table 1.…”

“…This is a elastomeric polymer, known commercially as ISODAMP C-1002, manufactured by EAR ® Specialty Composites (Indianápolis, EUA) and made from polyvinyl chloride (Dandekar et al, 1991;Szabo e Keough, 2002). This material has been used in studies involving typical VEMs (Espíndola et al, 2006;Nayfeh, 2004;Sousa et al 2017). Jones (1992) takes a set of samples of this material and sends them to some laboratories in the world (named generically Laboratory A to Laboratory F).…”

“…(Renaud et al, 2011). However, in order to accurately model VEMs, a large number of rheological elements are required (Sousa et al, 2017). For many complex VEMs, this approach is often impractical and expensive from computational modeling viewpoint.…”

“…Sousa et al [20] presented a method to determine the parameters of a fractional model for VEMs, considering the effects of frequency and temperature. The data were obtained by sampling a nomogram supplied by the manufacturer, using at least two different temperatures.…”
