Properties of Old Concrete Built in the Former Leipziger Palace

Abstract: This research aims to determine the mechanical, chemical, and physical properties of old concrete used in the former Leipziger Palace in Wrocław, Poland. The cylindrical specimens were taken from the basement concrete walls using a concrete core borehole diamond drill machine. The determination of the durability and strength of old concrete was based on specified chosen properties of the old concrete obtained through the following set of tests: measurements of dry density, tests of water absorption, specificat… Show more

“…Due to a lack of standard guidelines for the freezer of coated woven fabrics the freezer cycle was performed according to the PN-B-06250 standard [30]. This standard is used generally for the determination of concrete frost resistance [31][32][33]. The single freezer cycle consisted of freezing at −18 ± 2 • C for 4 h and thawing by full immersion in water at +18 ± 2 • C for 4 h. After the specified number of freezer cycles, the fabric specimens were air-dried at in-room temperature for one week and then subjected to mechanical tests.…”

“…The loss on ignition (LOI) was identified according to EN 196-2 [39]. The application of this technique allows us to determine the chemical composition of cementitious materials and the microstructure of concrete [40][41][42].…”

“…Much effort has not been made to recycle PTFE-coated baking sheets. However, several approaches, including hydrothermal treatment [23] , solvent-based methods [24] , physical separation [25] , and depolymerization [26] , are proposed to break down or separate PTFE coating from the fabrics. Meanwhile, in this work, these PTFE-coated baking sheets are directly reused for the fabrication of TENG after cleaning and disinfection.…”
