Properties of Board Manufactured from Sawdust, Ricehusk and Charcoal

Abstract: In this study, the environmentally friendly material charcoal was added to ricehusk, an agricultural by-product, and sawdust, which emerges during the sawing process, to produce board by mixing ratio and concentration levels of ricehusk and charcoal; it then investigated its physical properties for development purposes and achieved the following results. The water absorption and thickness swelling of the compounded board produced per adding ratio of ricehusk and charcoal showed a gradually decreasing tendency … Show more

“…As for the manufacturing conditions of boards, the resin content was fixed at 10% of the board weight and the density was fixed at 0.6 g/cm 3 . Four types of boards were manufactured by varying the contents of the sawdust, chaff, and charcoal to 50:35:5, 50:30:10, 50:25:15, and 50:20:20 (Hwang and Oh, 2020). In this instance, the hot pressing temperature was set to 170℃, and the pressure was set to 40, 30, and 20 kgf/cm 2 considering the hardening of the adhesive and spring back.…”

“…There is a lot of focus on developing wood-based products including agricultural by-products for structural applications in many of the countries in the Indian sub-continent and South East Asia (Azmi et al, 2019;Hwang and Oh, 2020;Iswanto et al, 2020;Jamaludin et al, 2020;Jose et al, 2022;Khan et al, 2021;Sumardi et al, 2022;Wibowo et al, 2021). Grewia serrulata (GS) trees are found in many locations in India, mainly the Western and Eastern Ghats and regions in the state of Assam, and belong to the Tiliaceae family.…”
