Propagation of pressure drop in coalbed methane reservoir during drainage stage

Abstract: Numerical simulation was employed to investigate the propagation speed of pressure drop at the drainage stage in coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs. A seepage model of singlephase water in CBM reservoirs was generated with the parameter from CBM well ZS39 in the Zhengzhuang block of the southern Qinshui Basin. The effects of stress sensitivity and reservoir properties on the pressure drop propagation process were analysed. Moreover the pressure drop funnel scale index was introduced to quantitatively characteriz… Show more

“…After the nanofluid is injected into the reservoir, during the flow process, the free nanoparticles in the liquid are captured by the rough wall of the reservoir pore throat due to motion collision and then adsorbed. The main functions of nanofluids in the reservoir with low flow velocity or in the stage of stewing and energy storage are Brownian action, van der Waals action, and electrostatic action. …”

“…Coalbed methane is an unconventional natural gas resource endowed in coal seams, with CH 4 as its main component (Asif et al, 2022;Gao et al, 2023). As a clean energy source with high calorific value and abundant reserves, coalbed methane has an important position and great potential in the energy field (Butalov and Klemes, 2011;Zhou et al, 2016;Jia et al, 2019). However, the utilization rate of coalbed methane in China is still under 50% (Zhang et al, 2021).…”

“…Shale gas, which is a kind of "self-generation and self-accumulation" gas reservoir, is a major unconventional hydrocarbon resource (Jarvie et al, 2007;Zou et al, 2016). Reservoir quality is key to shale gas exploration and development (Wang et al, 2018;Wang R. Y. et al, 2019;Wang et al, 2020a;Jia et al, 2019;, which is mainly influenced by sedimentary characteristics (Lv et al, 2020), structural history, and diagenetic evolution (Bjørlykke, 2014). In fact, sedimentary characteristics and structural history generally influenced reservoir quality by controlling diagenetic evolution (Dickinson, 1993;Bjørlykke and Jahren, 2012).…”
