Proof-of-Reputation: An Alternative Consensus Mechanism for Blockchain Systems

Abstract: Blockchains combine other technologies, such as cryptography, networking, and incentive mechanisms, to enable the creation, validation, and recording of transactions between participating nodes. A consensus algorithm is used in a blockchain system to determine the shared state among distributed nodes. An important component underlying any blockchain-based system is its consensus mechanism, which principally determines the performance and security of the overall system. As the nature of peer-topeer(P2P) network… Show more

“…As consensus implies confidence in the harmonization of opinion, this is clearly the layer best-placed to execute an appropriate computational Trust protocol. Based on our earlier discussion, this could be implemented using game-theoretic or fuzzy logic soft computing techniques, as well as by emergent consensus algorithms such as Proof-of-Reputation (Aluko & Kolonin, 2021), where participating agents win network Trust based on the votes they amass from others.  Layer 4 (Orchestration): Inspired by the work of Faisal (op.…”

“…In [5], the authors proposed a feedback-based reputation system for blockchain networks. Their system works by having a side-chain for the reputation values and having additional communication between the users to derive normalized reputation.…”

“…They operate outside the blockchain and have characteristics such as using the transaction history, being paid, dependent on ground-truth information, and are computationally expensive. Moreover, few approaches define reputation of user in the blockchain network using various mechanisms that although are behavior oriented but are either communication expensive [34], maintain a side chain [5], or biased [26].…”
