Proof-of-Event Recording System for Autonomous Vehicles: A Blockchain-Based Solution

Abstract: Autonomous vehicles are capable of sensing their environment and navigating without any human inputs. However, when autonomous vehicles are involved in accidents between themselves or with human subjects, liability must be indubitably decided based on accident forensics. This paper proposes a blockchain-inspired event recording system for autonomous vehicles. Specifically, we design the mechanism of "Proof-of-Event" with a dynamic federation consensus to achieve indisputable accident forensics by providing tru… Show more

“…A private blockchain is used to prohibit unauthorized parties from communicating with approved parties. Hao et al [142] developed a PoE scheme based on a dynamic federation consensus algorithm. This consensus algorithm offers irrefutable accident forensics by delivering tamper-proof and verifiable incident data.…”

“…The adoption of blockchain in autonomous vehicles already has several proposals in the literature. One of its applications is to support a system that stores events that happened in the autonomous vehicle and that can be useful when there is an accident between vehicles or involving a human being [ 139 ]. In these situations, responsibility must be decided on the basis of a system that makes it possible to understand the various events that have taken place in the autonomous vehicle.…”
