Promotion of renewable energy in some MENA region countries

Abstract: Abstract. In recent years Middle East and North African (MENA) countries, are showing efforts about the integration of renewable electricity into their power markets. Indeed, installations were already achieved and renewable energy programs were launched. The Algerian program remains one of the most ambitious with its installation capacity up to 22GW of power generating to be installed by 2030. More than 60 % of the total capacity is planned to be solar photovoltaic (PV). Like Algeria, Morocco has integrated d… Show more

“…The production capacity (1500 kWh) only reaches about half of the demand (3000 kWh) and increases the importance of using renewable energy [16]. Lebanon has an average daily solar radiation of about 4.8 kWh/m 2 , which is considered a good potential for radiation and has a lower environmental impact [31,32].…”

“…Due to its considerable sun exposure, which covers 90% of the nation , it has committed to obtaining the bulk of its renewable energy supply from solar photovoltaics (PV) [10]. According to [11], the expected amount of sunshine is 3000 hours per year, and the daily energy can reach up to 5 kWh/ .…”

“…To achieve this goal, Algeria has implemented various policies and incentives to promote the development of renewable energy projects, including solar energy. In 2020, the Algerian government launched a tender for the construction of 1.000 MW of solar energy capacity, attracting international companies to invest in the country's solar energy sector [5][6][7].…”
