The most fundamental decision-making tool for sustainable soil nutrient management is the assessment of soil fertility in a region. During 2021, a soil fertility status inventory was prepared through National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) model village at Achyutadaspur in the Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. A total of 125 surface soil samples were randomly collected from a depth of 0-15 cm with GPS locations and evaluated for soil pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, available N, P, K, S, Zn, and B using standard analytical procedures. GIS maps have been prepared using Arc GIS software based on the analysis report. The majority of the soil was found acidic around 62.4% area of the village, followed by neutral soil pH in 33.6% area. The organic carbon status of the soil was found low (79.2%) to medium (20.8%), available N was found low in 88% area and medium in 12% area, available P was found medium in 82.4% area and high in 17.6% area, available K was low in 27.2% area, medium in 64% area, and high in 8.8% area, and available S was low in 37.6% area and medium in 62.4% area, respectively. Among the available micronutrients, Zn was found low in 79.2% of the area and medium in 20.8% of the area. Similarly, hot water extractable boron was found low in 85.6% of the region and medium in 14.4% of the area. By adopting soil map based fertilizer recommendation with improved practices in the Achyutadaspur village, 17.92% yield was increased over farmers practices. The benefit cost ratio (B:C ratio) of rice was found to be 1.89 whereas 1.65 in farmers practices.

The study was conducted in the villages of Rayapuram and Keezhapattu in Tamil Nadu, as part of the National Innovation on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project in the Needamangalam district of Thiruvarur from 2015 to 2018. These villages frequently experienced floods, particularly impacting the rabi season's crop growth and maturity. The monsoon season (September to December) contributed to about 71% of the total rainfall. A comparative analysis was carried out to assess the economic performance of the flood-resistant paddy variety CR 1009 sub 1 in contrast to the commonly grown CR 1009. Traditionally, farmers in Rayapuram and Keezhapattu favored CR 1009 due to its high market value during the monsoon period. However, they faced low income due to flooding in the rabi season. To address this challenge, scientists from KVK, Thiruvarur, recommended the flood-tolerant paddy variety CR 1009 sub 1 for cultivation during the rabi season under the "National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)" project. Specific climate-resilient technologies, including flood-tolerant paddy variety "CR 1009 sub 1" and a high-yield, long-duration rice variety, were tested and demonstrated in the project villages to ensure rice production despite climatic variations leading to floods. It was crucial to assess how these varieties responded to climate vulnerabilities and how receptive farmers were to adopting them. Calculations were made to compare paddy productivity and economic returns under the improved technology with the traditional practices of farmers. The results indicated that the "CR 1009 sub 1" variety yielded higher harvests compared to the farmers' practices in the years 2015–16, 2016–17, and 2017–18, with increases of 12.60%, 11.69%, and 12.95% respectively. Furthermore, using improved technologies for paddy cultivation generated higher net returns of Rs. 57233, 60768, and 57728 per hectare in 2015–16, 2016–17, and 2017–18, respectively, in contrast to the farmers' practices (which yielded Rs. 49147, 50295, and 46266 per hectare in the same years). In comparison to the farmers' practices (with an average net return of Rs. 48569 per hectare and a benefit-cost ratio of 2.37), the demonstration fields showed an average net return of Rs. 58576 per hectare and a benefit-cost ratio of 2.56.

Flash flood or submergence is a common phenomenon in rice growing rainfed lowland areas that seriously affects crop establishment leading to severe yield losses. A few submergence–tolerant rice varieties have been developed by introgression SUB -1 gene into mega rice varieties of South Asia. Performance of this variety can be further enhanced through adoption of appropriate management practices. Farners Participatorty trials were conducted using Swarna- sub-1 and CR 1009 sub-1 during kharif, 2017 in three adopted villages at Erasama, Kujanga and Raghunathapur blocks of Jagatsinghpur district. Results of this experiment revealed that at recommended doses of N:P:K @ 80-40-40 Kgha-1, transplanting of 30 days aged seedlings and additional N-dose of 20kg/ha at 7 days after receding of flood water resulted in better post submergence recovery and maximum yield. Maximum number of tillers m-2 was recorded in CR 1009 sub -1 followed by Pooja and Swana Sub -1. Rice variety Swarna Sub –I rerecorded an yield of 55.23 q ha -1 which was 14.5% higher as compared to farmers variety Swrana 48.2 q ha -1. The Swarna Sub-1 and CR 1009 sub-1 survived in the flood and gave higher yield under submergence condition in the coastal flood prone area
