“…In urban areas, trees are perceived to promote social cohesion, and contribute to general human well-being (Ferreira et al, 2021;Gerstenberg & Hofmann, 2016;Hui & Jim, 2022;Jim et al, 2021;Leets et al, 2022;Wolf et al, 2020). They also offer a wide range of economic benefits (Donovan & Butry, 2011;Gilchrist et al, 2015;Hanisah et al, 2012;Leets et al, 2022;Plant et al, 2017;Rašković & Decker, 2015;Shickman & Rogers, 2020).…”

“…Their findings suggest that a lack of information can lead to low maintenance and social divestment. Similarly, Leets et al (2022) suggest that successful tree planting programs involve targeted outreach, public-private partnerships, and significant community participation. Citizen perspectives can also be useful for better understanding the values that communities place on naturebased solutions and urban rivers (Naserisafavi et al, 2022).…”

“…The study area used for the model development consists of Washington, D.C.; the model application was applied to two contrasting watersheds that are mainly located in Maryland (Watts Branch and Watershed 263) that exhibit divergent socio-economic conditions [36,37]. The model was developed by selecting the most accurate of five linear and nonlinear regression approaches (linear regression, LASSO regression, ridge regression, support vector, random forest [38][39][40][41]) for predicting the levels of reported BMP adoption from a twelve-year database, which is maintained by Washington, D.C. [42]. An algorithm was then developed to apply the model to study areas where, in contrast to the D.C. database, the spatial coordinates of BMPs are not known.…”
