Promoting convergence: The Phi spiral in abduction of mouse corneal behaviors

Abstract: Why do mouse corneal epithelial cells display spiraling patterns? We want to provide an explanation for this curious phenomenon by applying an idealized problem solving process. Specifically, we applied complementary line-fitting methods to measure transgenic epithelial reporter expression arrangements displayed on three mature, live enucleated globes to clarify the problem. Two prominent logarithmic curves were discovered, one of which displayed the ϕ ratio, an indicator of an optimal configuration in phyllot… Show more

“…In the final example, the incompressible behavior of a three-dimensional mouse cornea subjected to pressure loading is studied by means of standard and B methods. Biological tissues are prime examples of nearly incompressible media, and the current approach has been applied with good results in [30] [31]. An intraocular pressure of 1.73 kPa is applied to the posterior side of the cornea.…”

“…As ancient empirical medicine, Mongolian medicine has valuable medical wealth left by many predecessors. However, many Mongolian medicine physicians and scholars do not study the thinking modes and reasoning methods in Mongolian medicine [31]. The Mongolian medicine physicians utilize the three diagnostic methods of "look, question and feel the pulse" in combination with the above reasoning methods for comprehensive analyses instead of using a certain reasoning method alone and focus on patients for verification.…”

“…They also propose examples of biological processes where their model could be applicable, specifically in the context of cancer. Rhee et al (2015) proposed two computational approaches to explain the spiral patterns of TACs which can be seen in mosaic systems and proposed that spiral angles are stable in mature mouse corneas.…”
