Promoting catalytic ozonation of phenol over graphene through nitrogenation and Co 3 O 4 compositing

Abstract: Catalytic ozonation is progressively becoming an attractive technique for quick water purification but efficient and stable catalysts remains still elusive. Here we solvothermally synthesized highly-dispersed Co3O4 nanocrystals over microscale nitrogen-doping graphene (NG) nanosheets and tested it as a synthetic catalyst in the ozonation of phenol in acid aqueous solutions. Transmission electron microscopy, Powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were u… Show more

“…This could also explain the lack of improvement in the phenol degradation, which is found in molecular form at the aqueous solution pH (pK a around 10). Bao et al (2016) also confirmed improved catalytic ozonation performance of N-doped reduced-graphene oxide. Yin et al (2017) showed catalytic ozonation using N and P doped reduced-graphene oxides is far more efficient than noncatalytic ozonation in the degradation of sulphamethoxazole.…”

“…8 It has relatively low energy demand and high degradation and mineralization effectiveness of some refractory organic pollutants in waters, thus becoming a research hot spot in the eld of ozone oxidation. 7 So far, various solid catalysts have been reported including metal oxides, supported metals/metal oxides and some porous materials. [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Cobalt oxide is one of the highly reactive metal oxide as an ozonation catalyst.…”

“…According to Almomani et al (2016), more than 40% DOC of an antibiotics-containing wastewater was mineralization in less than 1 min after the ozonation treatment. Bao et al (2016) reported Co3O4 assisted ozone oxidation process, the direct oxidation was the primary way according to Guo et al (2016), they found the process could increase BOD5/COD ratio from 0 to 0.54 after the treatment.…”
