Objective: to develop the concept ambience for labor and normal institutionalized delivery, identifying in the literature its antecedent, defining attributes and the consequent. Method: the method used was the analysis of literature, corresponding to the first stage of the qualitative method of concept analysis. The theoretical operation was performed in the databases CINAHL COCHRANE, LILACS, PsycINFO, and PubMed. Results: aspects of the parturient woman and the qualification of the physical and social space are presented as the antecedent. The defining attributes outline the assistance interaction process with Non-Invasive Technologies. As the consequent, we highlight the outcome for normal delivery, pain relief and comfort, woman satisfaction and well-being. Final considerations: the analysis of the antecedent, defining attributes and the consequent allowed the elaboration of an unprecedent theoretical proposition of this concept. RESUMOObjetivo: elaborar o conceito ambiência para trabalho de parto e parto normal institucionalizado, identificando na literatura seus antecedentes, atributos definidores e consequentes. Método: empregou-se o método da análise crítica da literatura, correspondendo à primeira etapa da metodologia qualitativa de análise de conceito. A exploração teórica foi realizada nas bases de dados CINAHL, COCHRANE, LILACS, PsycINFO e PubMed. Resultados: elementos referentes à parturiente e à qualificação do espaço físico e social são apresentados como antecedentes. Os atributos definidores delineiam o processo de interação assistencial com o uso das Tecnologias Não Invasivas. Como consequentes, destacam-se desfecho para o parto normal, alívio e conforto da dor, satisfação e bem-estar da parturiente. Considerações finais: a análise dos antecedentes, atributos definidores e consequentes permitiu elaborar uma proposição teórica inédita desse conceito. A CorrespondingIntroduction: Birth satisfaction is an important aspect of giving birth. It is a subjective way to quantify how the experience went for new mothers.Aim: This research aimed to assess whether either of two self-directed educational programmes could improve birth satisfaction in New Zealand first-time mothers. Method:One hundred and eighty-two women were recruited and randomly assigned to a skills preparation group, a birth stories booklet group, or a treatment as usual (TAU) group. Findings:One hundred and thirty-seven women completed the three questionnaires relevant for this report (a 75% retention rate). Birth satisfaction was measured soon after birth. It was found that women who received either of the birth preparation programmes (skills or birth stories booklet) had significantly higher birth satisfaction scores. A post-hoc analysis found that, irrespective of programme, having either an induction or a caesarean birth had a negative effect on birth satisfaction, while having birth expectations met had a positive impact on birth satisfaction. Conclusions:Increased preparation for childbirth may be important for birth satisfaction; both induction and caesarean section reduce satisfaction; and expectations around birth might be managed to improve satisfaction. This study found evidence that simple low-cost programmes can improve birth satisfaction.

Positive childbirth experience: A qualitative study

Aim This study aimed to explore the meaning of a positive childbirth experience expressed by women who had given birth in Iran. Design Qualitative exploratory study. Methods This is a qualitative study conducted on 10 women aged 20–38 years with positive childbirth experience. Data were collected using semi‐structured interviews from 72 hr–2 months after childbirth. Results Data analysis led to into two themes and five subthemes. The themes include control and empowerment. Control theme consisted of three subthemes of preparation, coping and support; and empowerment theme consisted of two subthemes of self‐efficacy and self‐esteem. Women's sense of empowerment to childbirth can be the result of a positive childbirth experience. Therefore, it seems that providing positive experience factors of childbirth plays an important role in women's self‐efficacy and self‐esteem, which requires cooperation and effort at the level of the individual, family, education system and healthcare system.
