Promising Directions for the Stabilization of Ferroalloy Production Slags

Abstract: In this paper the analysis of the processes for spontaneous decay of slags from the production of refined ferroalloy grades is performed. It is shown that the main reason for the decay is the formation of a dicalcium silicate in highly basic melts with CaO / SiO2 ratio of 1.5-3.1. Based on the performed studies, three main promising directions for the stabilization of slags of ferroalloy production have been formed. First direction is the replacement of the calcium cation (or transformation) in a dicalcium sil… Show more

“…Volume of production of ferroalloys was estimated on the basis of data [3]. In the case of usage of carbothermal method for ferroalloys production slag doesn't disintegrate but keep piece form and additional measures for their stabilization and dispersed material processing aren't required [4,5]. It is possible to estimated volume of dust and slime formed in gas-cleaning equipment on the basis of data of dust-forming in ferroalloys production.…”

“…The most harmful ferrous metallurgy works in the Aktobe region of the Republic of Kazakhstan are chromium enterprises [3,14,15]. In particular, the waste of the world's largest producer of ferrochrome TNK Kazkhrom JSC (ERG) does enormous damage to the region's ecology, the scale of which is still underestimated and unrealized by residents.…”
