“…The results of these different secretory behaviors are beneficial in that they avoid the detrimental effects of AMH and inhibin B on the hypothalamus/ hypophysis/gonads axis of the potential human recipient, but at the same time, they enable the passage of useful molecules, such as TGF-b1, which have beneficial trophic and or immune-modulatory properties. As previously described [13,14], this latter observation was assessed in vitro experiments showing that Ba-MCpSCs had comparable secretory values with respect to naked SCs and in experiments in vivo showing secretion was detectable up to 6 months in the serum of Laron Ba-MCpSCstransplanted mice (data not shown).…”

“…Our alginate, Keltone® LVCR (Kelco), upon our original ultrapurification process, is comprised of both, mannuronic acid (M, 52.6%) and guluronic acid (G, 47.74%) with a M/G ratio equaling 1.093. Alginate molecular weight was 90 kDa [27,29]. As above mentioned, the AG-pSC suspension was continuously aspirated by a peristaltic pump at a flow rate of 12-14 ml/min and then extruded through a microdroplet generator (air flow rate: 5 l/min) under sterile conditions.…”

“…Sertoli cells from immature rat, murine or porcine testes display extended survival as allografts or xenografts, and co-transplantation of Sertoli cells or testis cell mixtures containing these cells confers increased survival on a number of cell and tissue allografts and xenografts, including neural cells, pancreatic islets and skin. [987][988][989][990] Such procedures have even been used for protection of islet transplants in humans, with some success and controversy. 991 Although the immunoprotective properties of the Sertoli cells appear to be dependent upon their number and ability to form intercellular tight junctions and tubule-like structures, survival of co-transplanted cells adjacent to, but outside, these structures indicates that the protective mechanism does not require the creation of a physical barrier.…”
