“…Le stress hydrique appliqué serait modéré pour les plants de gombo. L'augmentation de la chlorophylle comme celle de la proline foliaires sous l'effet du stress hydrique suggère que ces deux composés ont un précurseur commun, le glutamate (Reddy et Veeranjaneyulu, 1991). Il existerait donc des voies distinctes de biosynthèse de ces composés.…”

“…An alternative model for coupling proline synthesis with the PPP has been proposed where proline biosynthesis in response to stress can manage energy and reductant needs of anabolic pathways (Shetty and Wahlqvist 2004). This active metabolic role of proline could have implications for plant senescence where proline can act as an antioxidant or stimulate phenolic‐linked antioxidant response (Smirnoff and Cumbes 1989; Reddy and Veeranjaneyulu 1991; Shetty and Wahlqvist 2004). Proline is synthesized via the reduction of glutamate to Δ 1 ‐pyrroline‐5‐carboxylate (P5C) which is further reduced to proline, with both reactions using NADPH as a reductant.…”

“…Thus, it could also justify the content in lower chlorophyll a less important photosynthetic activity of plants handled by important quantities of potassium of the treatment T3 (40 g/plant in our case) compared with the plants of the treatment T2 (34 g/plant). Moreover, several works also confirm the existence of a competition between proline and the chlorophyll for the same precursor that is the glutamate [32,33]. Concerning the potassium concentration in the leaf D, the results revealed that it increases as the applied quantity of potassium increases.…”
