Progress towards the innovation potential of the European union member states using grey relational analysis and multidimensional scaling methods

Abstract: The article presents the results of a study aimed at assessing the level of innovation potential of European Union member states. The research was based on 8 diagnostic variables characterizing the two most important dimensions of innovation, namely human resources and R&D expenditures. As a result of the research, the levels of innovation potential of European Union countries between 2010-2020 were specified. The GRA approach and multidimensional scaling were used for the study. Based on the results, the … Show more

“…Gandomi et al [37] used DEMATEL to determine the inter-relationships between the criteria. The main advantages of a Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) are that it is not limited by sample size and normal distribution of data, and its calculation process is simple and easy to understand [38]. It is often used to enhance certain classical multi-criteria decision-making methods.…”

“…In order to improve the accuracy of determining key factors, this study also involves determining the ranking of the importance of posterior probabilities of BN nodes. The calculation formula for the node importance in BN is as shown in Equation (11).…”

“…In Equation (11), I n represents the difference between the posterior probability and the prior probability of a BN node. The larger the value of I n , the lower the ranking of node importance, indicating a higher probability of triggering hazards.…”
