“…Blood purification therapy is one of the most efficient ways to cure key human diseases, where a patient's blood is extracted from the body and passed through purification systems and then returned to the body. 1–4 In this way, some cumulative metabolic waste or pathogenic matter in blood can be well cleaned. It factually replaces the function of some organs such as the liver and kidneys for detoxification and excretion, thus relieving symptoms and resulting in good conditions for tissue metabolism.…”

“…17–19 For example, currently reported HD membranes are normally mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), consisting of sorbent fillers and polymeric matrix. 4,11,12 Via the synergistic effect of ultrafiltration and adsorption, toxic molecules are cleared more thoroughly. Adsorbents for blood purification should not only deliver large adsorption capacity and selectivity towards toxins but also exhibit outstanding blood compatibility and nontoxicity.…”

“…Poly(ether sulfone)s (PESs) are well-known engineering plastics and have a wide range of applications, for example as membranes for fuel cells, 1–8 in ion-exchange applications, 9–14 for separation, 15–24 for medical applications 25–27 and so on, due to their resistance to heat and chemicals. Furthermore, PES architectures, such as copolymers, 28–32 block copolymers, 33–41 star polymers, 42,43 and hyperbranched polymers, 9,44 have been synthesized and showed their specific properties.…”
