Progress and Trends of Optical Microfiber-Based Biosensors

Abstract: Biosensors are central to diagnostic and medicinal applications, especially in terms of monitoring, managing illness, and public health. Microfiber-based biosensors are known to be capable of measuring both the presence and behavior of biological molecules in a highly sensitive manner. In addition, the flexibility of microfiber in supporting a variety of sensing layer designs and the integration of nanomaterials with biorecognition molecules brings immense opportunity for specificity enhancement. “…Many applications have found detection in different fields through taper optical fiber sensors (TOFSs) based on the creation of evanescent waves on the surface walls of tapers. These fields of application on our TOFSs model can function as: sensor in environmental detection [12], sensor in biodetection [13], chemical sensor [14], biological sensor [15], sensor of bending by the application of forces radial [16], vibration sensor [17], and flow sensor [18].…”
