Prognostic values of procalcitonin and platelet in the patient with urosepsis

Abstract: Background: The patient suffering from urinary sepsis is often accompanied by elevated serum procalcitonin (PCT) levels and a decline in the average platelet count (PLT), which could result in a poor prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the value of PCT and PLT in determining the severity of urinary sepsis. Methods: A total of 120 urosepsis patients enrolled were divided into a survival group and a death group, respectively, according to their status within 14 days a… Show more

“…In US with UTI‐specific detection, galactosyl bisecting GlcNAc core fucosyl N ‐glycan (G2FB) on Ig was found to be the main contributor. Although procalcitonin and the platelet count are useful for evaluating the severity of US, more precise diagnostic biomarkers are required for evaluation of the severity of disease 5,6 . The US score could be a promising biomarker of severe US detection.…”

“…Platelets not only play an important role in the regulation of hemostasis and thrombosis, but also in innate immunity and the regulation of tumor growth and extravasation [ 6 ]. Platelet levels have been reported to be associated with the prognosis of diseases [ 7 , 8 , 9 ]. In fact, the mean platelet volume (MPV) and MPV/PLT ratio (MPR) can be used to predict 28-day mortality in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia [ 10 ].…”
