Prognostic Value of the Red Blood Cell Distribution Width-to-Albumin Ratio in Critically Ill Older Patients with Acute Kidney Injury: A Retrospective Database Study

Abstract: Background. There is no evidence suggesting that red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RA) predicts outcomes in severely ill older individuals with acute kidney injury (AKI). We hypothesized that RA is associated with all-cause mortality in critically ill older patients with AKI. Methods. We recorded demographics, laboratory tests, comorbidities, vital signs, and other clinical information from the MIMIC-III V1.4 dataset. The primary endpoint was 90-day all-cause mortality, and the secondary endp… Show more

“…The blood urea nitrogen to albumin ratio (BAR) was found to be an independent risk factor for mortality in patients with sepsis (AUR 0.661) [ 41 ]. The red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RAR) was reported as an independent risk indicator for 90-day mortality in elderly patients with AKI (AUC 0.656) [ 42 ]. Elevated RAR was independently associated with an increased risk of SAKI (RR 1.09) [ 43 ].…”
