Prognostic value of Systemic immune-inflammation index in cancer: A meta-analysis

Abstract: Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), on the basis of lymphocyte, neutrophil and platelet counts had been published to be a good prognostic factor in multiple cancers. Nevertheless, the prognostic value of SII in cancer patients remains inconsistent. Therefore, we carried out a meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic value of SII in these patients with cancer. A total of 22 articles with 7657 patients enrolled in this meta-analysis. The combined result revealed that a high SII was evidently correlated wit… Show more

“…Recently, SII was developed as a new index based on circulating immune‐inflammatory cells, such as platelets, neutrophils and lymphocytes. The index has been widely reported to be associated with poor outcomes in patients with various cancers, 16‐18 indicating that it could be useful as a biomarker for future outcomes. In our study, the ACS group had higher SII score and WBC values, which reflect more severe inflammation.…”

“…Hu et al 16 first reported on the use of the SII in hepatocellular carcinoma, and the index had significant associations with prognostic clinical outcomes, including vascular invasion, tumour size and early recurrence. More and more clinical observation studies support that SII is a powerful tool for predicting survival outcomes in multiple solid cancers 17,18 . Recently, Seo et al 19 first reported the predictive value of SII in patients with chronic heart failure.…”

“…SII is a relatively new index that reflects inflammation status and is correlated with circulating tumor cells. A high level of SII has been associated with advanced clinicopathological characteristics and has been identified as a reliable prognostic factor for long term survival in various malignant tumors (26). SII has also been proposed as a better reflection of inflammatory status and prognosis than other inflammatory markers in many cancers (27)(28)(29).…”

“…Different clinical outcomes of Hp infection are related to differences in the patterns of impaired balance between aggressive bacterial and host defensive factors . The origin of cancers, including GC, has recently been ascribed to the disturbed cooperation between the cells and their niches, mediated by the pro‐inflammatory stimuli . Connective tissue cells, such as fibroblasts, may serve as the primary although underestimated targets of such stimuli in numerous inflammatory diseases.…”
