Background This study evaluated the value of PNI to predicting relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with resectable gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (AGE). Methods Between 2016 and 2020, there were 236 resectable AGE patients underwent a retrospective review via propensity score matched (PSM) analysis. The PNI values were computed for each patient prior to surgery [PNI= 10×albumin (gr/dL) + 0.005×total lymphocyte count (mm3)]. By using disease progression and mortality as the end points, a receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was plotted to identify the PNI cut-off value. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazard models were used for survival analysis. Results The ROC curve indicated that the ideal cutoff value was 45.60. After propensity score matching, there were 143 patients in our retrospective study, which included 58 patients in the low-PNI group and 85 patients in the high-PNI group. When compared to the low PNI group, the high PNI group substantially increased RFS and OS (p<0.001, p=0.003, respectively) according to the Kaplan-Meier analysis and Log rank test. Advanced pathological N stage (p=0.011) and poor PNI (p=0.004) were also significant risk factors for a shorter OS, according to a univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis revealed that the N0 plus N1 group had an endpoint mortality risk that was 0.39 times lower than the N2 plus N3 group’s (p=0.008). In comparison to the high PNI group, the hazard of endpoint mortality was 2.442 times greater in the low PNI group (p = 0.003). Conclusion PNI is a simplistic and practical predictive predictor of the RFS and OS time in patients with resectable AGE.

Background Evidence about the association between albumin combined with neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio score (ANS) and survival outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is rare. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of ANS in patients with ACS undergoing PCI by propensity score matching (PSM) analysis. Patients and methods Patients with ACS undergoing PCI were consecutively enrolled in this prospective cohort study from January 2016 to December 2018. The albumin and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio cutoff values for predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were calculated using receiver operating characteristic curves. Survival analysis was performed using Kaplan–Meier estimates, the Cox proportional hazard regression models and PSM. The study endpoint was the occurrence of a MACE, which included all-cause mortality and rehospitalization for severe heart failure during follow-up. Results Overall, 1549 patients with adequate specimens were identified and assigned into different groups for comparison. Before and after PSM, the Kaplan–Meier curves showed that a higher ANS value was associated with a higher risk of MACEs (all P < 0.001). The multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model showed that the ANS (per 1 score increase) [hazard ratio (HR), 2.016; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.329–3.057; P = 0.001 vs. HR, 2.166; 95% CI, 1.344–3.492; P = 0.002] was an independent predictor for MACEs. Conclusion This study tentatively confirms that ANS may be a valuable clinical indicator to identify high-risk ACS patients after PCI. More high-quality prospective studies are needed in the future.

Hematological indicators of chronic systemic inflammation are significant biomarkers for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs). We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis to assess the impact of certain factors on the overall survival (OS), progression‐free survival (PFS), and disease‐free survival (DFS) of patients with GEP‐NENs. These factors include the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR), and C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels. After searching the Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases from January 1, 2000 to October 20, 2022 and the American Society of Clinical Oncology conference proceedings from January 1, 2017, hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were extracted. Subgroup analyses were conducted to identify the origins of heterogeneity and examine the impact of factor grouping. The effects of the cut‐off values and sample size were assessed by meta‐regression. The results revealed that higher NLRs, PLRs, and CRP levels were associated with shorter OS (HR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.55–2.8; HR = 1.79, 95% CI = 1.40–2.28; and HR = 2.88, 95% CI = 2.09–3.95, respectively; all p < 0.001). Higher NLRs and lower LMRs were associated with shorter DFS (HR = 3.34, 95% CI = 2.11–5.29 and HR = 2.71, 95% CI = 2.27–3.24, respectively; both p < 0.001). Higher PLRs and CRP levels were correlated with shorter PFS (HR = 3.48, 95% CI = 1.34–9.03, p = 0.01 and HR = 3.14, 95% CI = 1.63–6.08, p = 0.001). As demonstrated in the research, hematological indicators of systemic inflammation are promising biomarkers for GEP‐NEN assessment.
