Prognostic Value of Daily Cardiac Surgery Score (CASUS) and its Derivatives in Cardiac Surgery Patients

Abstract: CASUS derivatives including δ CASUS have a good prognostic value for cardiac surgery patients with regard to the prediction of mortality and survival during ICU stay, with the exception of total CASUS which was not informative.

“…All the APACHE models are based on the most abnormal values registered during the first 24 h after ICU admission. However, because several studies [13,14] have supported serial daily usage of postoperative risk stratification models, we chose to evaluate APACHE II on all ICU days. In our study, APACHE II had the worst discrimination of the four models studied but its calibration was better than that of SAPS II.…”

“…Many of these studies report AUROCs inferior to our 2VSS referent (6,19,20,(23)(24)(25)(26). Diagnosis-specific scoring systems, such as the Cardiac Surgery Score (CASUS), generally have provided superior discriminant accuracy in the specific subsets of patients they were designed to serve (27)(28)(29).…”

“…The Log-CASUS is a daily mortality score specifically related to patients in extracorporeal circulation during cardiac surgery postoperative care; it is a method of easy stratification and implementation at a patient's bedside [ 3 , 4 ] , which can be done on the internet [ 5 , 6 ] .…”
