Prognostic significance of tumor location in high-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer

Abstract: The management of high-grade (HG) non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) continues to be a serious clinical problem. The role of many factors related to efficacy of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), which is the most useful intravesical agent for these tumors, is still unknown. This study investigated the prognostic value of tumor location in high-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Seventy-four patients with HG non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, without carcinoma in situ (CIS), were treated by transu… Show more

“…Even in patients with bladder cancer, the impact of tumor location on prognosis is still controversial. Vukomanovic et al showed that tumor location is a prognostic factor for recurrence in patients with high-grade NMIBC [39], while study from Deng et al indicated that tumor location may not be suitable to predict the recurrence of NMIBC [40]. Our study suggested that the prognostic significance of tumor location in NMIBC is depend on SC markers expression status.…”

“…At present, three risk models are widely known for prediction of the risk of tumor recurrence and progression of NMIBC: the EORTC risk tables, the CUETO scoring model and the new EORTC model . Some previous studies, including ours, have shown that another predictor of tumor recurrence or progression is tumor location, especially those with BNI …”
