“…Several studies have demonstrated that EMT widely exists in breast cancer [19], colon cancer [20], ovarian cancer [21], and in a fraction of bladder cancer patients [22]. Increased evidence has demonstrated that EMT renders tumor cells more resistant to chemotherapeutic drugs when cells are transfected with some hallmark genes of EMT, including Notch, Twist, and TGFβ [23,24,25].…”

“…Several signal transduction pathways are involved in the regulation of EMT-mediated stem cell self-renewal, such as Notch, Wnt, and TGFβ [22,24,40]. Studies have indicated that ectopic expression of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) leads to morphological changes and alterations of markers consistent with EMT.…”

“…Putative mechanisms include the increased supply of factors that promote carcinogenesis and tumor progression by cells of the innate immune systems such as neutrophils and decreased anti-tumor response by immune cells of the adaptive system such as lymphocytes (711). …”

“…The network contains genetic regulations and especially miRNA regulations. We chose an EMT network because EMT regulations have been proven as highly relevant to cancer prognosis [33][34][35], which is the target we want to predict. Thus, at the same time we tested whether biologically relevant molecules are good candidate biomarkers for prediction.…”
