Prognostic significance of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score in patients with colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: The clinical evidence of the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score for outcomes has increased in gastroenterological surgical oncology. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the CONUT score on outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: A literature review was systematically conducted to evaluate the significance of the CONUT score in CRC patients. Meta-analyses of survival were performed to investigate the effects of the CONUT score in CRC patients. Results:… Show more

“…The results demonstrated that high-CONUT has a poor impact on OS and RFS in HCC patients. Takagi et al (34,35) also conducted another two meta-analyses exploring the prognostic value of CONUT in gastric and colorectal cancer. The results revealed that both gastric and colorectal cancer patients with a high-COUNT score had reduced OS, CSS and RFS.…”

“…12 With the deepening of its research, people found that the CONUT score has significant prognostic value in various malignant tumors, such as esophageal, 13 renal, 14 gastric, 15 prostate, 16 and colorectal cancer. 17 However, no study has systematically identified the prognostic effect of preoperative CONUT score on post-treatment RFS in patients with NMBIC cancer.…”

“…The CONUT score was initially reported as an effective tool for early detection and ongoing control of malnutrition in hospitals [12]. With the deepening of its research, people found that the CONUT score has signi cant prognostic value in various malignant tumors, such as esophageal [13], renal [14], gastric [15], prostate [16], and colorectal cancer [17]. However, no study has systematically identi ed the prognostic effect of preoperative CONUT score on posttreatment RFS in patients with NMBIC cancer.…”

“…The scoring system is readily available and signi cantly correlated with both Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and Full Nutritional Assessment (FNA) [12]. In addition, it has been reported to be associated with the postoperative complications and prognosis of various malignant tumors [13][14][15][16][17].…”
