Background and purpose: To evaluate the prognosis values of HALP in acute or subacute cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), to explore the new prognostic model for CVST.Methods: Consecutive patients who were diagnosed as having acute and subacute CVST were retrospectively investigated. We determined the patients' functional outcomes by modified Rankin Scale (mRS). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between factors and poor functional outcomes. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was estimated to evaluate the ability of markers and models in predicting clinical prognosis. The prognostic model was presented as nomogram. In addition, the decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to analyze the benefit of this model. Furthermore, survival curves were described by the Kaplan‑Meier analysis. Results: A total of 270 patients were included of which 31 had poor outcome. Multivariable logistic regression analysis demonstrated HALP (OR=0.978, 95%CI: 0.958-0.999, P=0.039) was a protective predictor of outcome. The AUC of HALP was 0.749 (95% CI: 0.633-0.865, P=0.044). DCA demonstrated that this model significantly improved risk prediction at threshold probabilities of CVST at 0 to 85%. Patients with higher HALP (P=0.006) presented higher overall survival rates. Conclusions: HALP may be a potential protective marker in acute and subacute CVST patients. The new prognostic model with HALP had potentially better value for Chinese CVST patients.

ObjectiveTo identify prognostic factors and establish nomograms for predicting overall survival (OS) and cause specific survival (CSS) of patients with non‐metastatic chondrosarcoma.MethodsWe collected information on patients with non‐metastatic chondrosarcoma from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2005 and 2014, together with data from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from 2011 to 2016. Variables including patients’ baseline demographics (age, race, and gender), tumor characteristics (tumor size and extension, histology subtype, primary site, and American Joint Committee on Cancer [AJCC] stage), therapy (surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy), and socioeconomic status (SES) were extracted for further analysis. OS and CSS were retrieved as our researching endpoints. Patients from the database were regarded as the training set, and univariate analysis, Lasso regression and multivariate analysis as well as the random forest were used to explore the predictors and establish nomograms. To validate nomograms internally and externally, we applied bootstrapped validation internally with the training dataset, while the dataset for external validation was obtained from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. We estimated the discriminative ability of nomograms based on Cox proportional hazard regression models by means of calibration curves and the concordance index (C‐index) of internal and external validation.ResultsAfter the implementation of exclusion criteria, there were 1267 patients in the training set and 72 patients in the testing set with non‐metastatic chondrosarcomas. Age, gender, grade, histological subtype, primary site, surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, being employed/unemployed, tumor size, and tumor extension were significantly associated with prognosis in the univariate analysis. Age, gender, tumor size and extension, primary site, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, histological grade, and subtype were independent prognostic factors in the Cox models. The C‐index of nomograms (internal: OS, 0.787; CSS, 0.821; external: OS, 0.777; CSS, 0.821) were higher than following conventional systems: AJCC sixth (OS, 0.640; CSS, 0.673) and seventh edition (OS, 0.675; CSS, 0.711).ConclusionsAge, gender, tumor size and extension, surgery, histological grade, and subtype were independent prognostic factors for both OS and CSS. In addition, we revealed that chondrosarcomas in the trunk, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy were correlated with poor prognosis. Our nomograms based on significant clinicopathologic features can well predict the 3‐year and 5‐year survival probability of patients with non‐metastatic chondrosarcoma and assist oncologists in making accurate survival evaluation.

Background The combined index of hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte and platelet (HALP) is considered as a novel score to reflect systemic inflammation and nutritional status. This study aimed to investigate the association between HALP score and adverse clinical events in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods This study prospectively included patients with AIS within 24 hours of admission to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The primary outcomes were all-cause death within 90 days and 1 year. The secondary outcomes included stroke recurrence and combined vascular events. The association between HALP score and adverse clinical outcomes was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards. Results A total of 1337 patients were included. Patients in the highest tertile of HALP score had a lower risk of death within 90 days and 1 year (Hazard ratio: 0.20 and 0.30; 95% confidence intervals: 0.06–0.66 and 0.13–0.69, P for trend < 0.01 for all) compared with the lowest tertile after adjusting relevant confounding factors. Similar results were found for secondary outcomes. Subgroup analyses further confirmed these association. Adding HALP score to the conventional risk factors improved prediction of death in patients with AIS within 90 days and 1 year (net reclassification index, 38.63% and 38.68%; integrated discrimination improvement, 2.43% and 2.57%; P < 0.02 for all). Conclusions High HALP score levels were associated with decreased risk of adverse clinical outcomes within 90 days and 1 year after stroke onset, suggesting that HALP score may serve as a powerful indicator for AIS.
